GCC’s Al-Zayani Discusses Political Solution in Yemen with U.N. Special Envoy | ASHARQ AL-AWSAT English Archive 2005 -2017

Riyadh- General Secretary of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani had discussed with the U.N. Special Envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed in Riyadh most recent developments concerning the war-torn country.

Means on bolstering U.N. and international exertions for brokering a political solution in line with the Gulf initiative, the outcome of national dialogue and U.N. Resolution 2216 was also discussed by Al Zayani and Ould Cheikh.

The U.N. envoy informed the GCC top official of recent deliberations held with both Yemeni warring blocs in hopes of arriving to a political solution which puts an end to the conflict in Yemen. Any solution brokered will be in accordance to internationally adopted references.

Al Zayani lauded the efforts spent by Ould Cheikh, confirming that the GCC supports all exertions exhausted by the U.N. diplomat.

Yemen’s President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi had met with the U.N. special envoy in Riyadh on Tuesday. For his part, Presdient Hadi confirmed that his administration is determined to find a positive political solution which matches the efforts of the U.N. envoy.

Yemen’s president highlighted that any solution for peace will be based on three principal mechanisms; the Gulf initiative along with its defined mechanisms of implementation, the outcome of national dialogue and international resolutions set by the U.N.’s Security Council- such as U.N. resolution 2216.

President Hadi added that his administration will keep on the search for sustainable peace on which the nation’s secure future can be built away from all crises. Any found solution must be clear of potential conflict, which is what had been agreed upon by the outcome of national dialogue- founding for a federalist Yemen that achieves justice, quality and all means to a decent living.
