Abu Dhabi-The UAE Federal Supreme Court sentenced a GCC citizen to jail and fined him following accusations of insulting symbols of the UAE.

The court issued the verdict to three-year imprisonment and fined him Dh50, 000.
The convict will be deported after serving his jail term in the country.

He is charged with disseminating information with a view to ridicule and damage the reputation of the state symbols. He also ridiculed Emirati martyrs in Yemen, describing them as ‘cowards’ on WhatsApp.

The State Security Circuit of the Federal Supreme Court also heard witness statements in the case of four defendants accused of giving money to two terrorist organizations.

The court decided to hold its next session on March 21 to hear the defense witnesses at the request of the defendants’ lawyers.

Earlier, the public prosecutor, in the previous session, charged four Arab and North American defendants, accusing them of providing funds to the two terrorist organizations “The February 17th Martyrs Brigade” and “Fajr Libya Militias” affiliated to Muslim Brotherhood. The prosecutor noted that the accused were aware the funds were used to finance terrorist operations.

The defendants, as per the charges, had cooperated with the two terrorist groups as they provided them with tools, including equipment, vehicles, radios, night binoculars and raincoats, which helped terrorists achieve their purposes.
