Cairo, Asharq Al-Awsat- High level security sources in the Egyptian Ministry of Interior revealed that the prisons department has accepted the request made by Gamal Mubarak – son of the former Egyptian President and currently held on remand in the Mulhaq Mazra annex of Tora Prison, on charges of manipulating shares on the stock market – to be transferred next to his father who is recovering in Tora Prison Hospital, after being sentenced to life imprisonment for ordering the killing of demonstrators.

Security sources told Asharq Al-Awsat that Mohammed Najib Hassan Jamil, prisons sector aide to the Minister of Interior, has agreed to Gamal’s transfer request after discussing the matter with the Minister of Interior, Mohamed Ibrahim. The request was granted so that Gamal Mubarak can help his father go to the toilet and take his medications and fluids that are required throughout the day.

In the same context, security sources confirmed that Hosni Mubarak has been unable to fast during the first and second days of the holy month of Ramadan, due to the fact that he is being administered drugs and fluids constantly, in addition to certain foods that are helping to continuously improve his condition. Doctors have warned him not to fast so that his health does not deteriorate again. The sources pointed out that during his transferred stay, Gamal Mubarak will help his father walk a little inside the hospital to regulate his heartbeat and blood circulation, as per the advice of the team of doctors who treated him, and likewise to ensure that he does not suffer from muscular dystrophy or bed sores.

On the 15th July 2012, Attorney General Dr. Abdel Meguid Mahmoud issued a decision to transfer former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak from Maadi Military Hospital to Tora Prison Hospital, after his health had improved and his condition had stabilized, in order to fully implement his sentence in accordance with the provisions of the law. This was based on the opinion of a medical committee that came to the conclusion that there were no health-related reasons that required Hosni Mubarak to remain in Maadi Military Hospital, or in any other hospital with advanced medical equipment.
