Aden-More than 180 passengers survived death after a the crew of a plane that follows Yemen Airways managed to take control of the plane and return it to Aden International Airport in an emergency landing.

The airplane was flying over the Red Sea when one of its engines broke down suddenly.

Eyewitnesses in Aden International Airport told Asharq Al-Awsat that the airport was in a state of alert before the pilot was able to return the plane and land in the airport.

Director of the Yemenia office in Aden Eng. Abdullah al-Shaeri told Asharq Al-Awsat that the plane, which was heading to Cairo returned after about 50 minutes of taking-off due to a burning in one part of its engines.

According to Shaeri, the plane is the same one that experienced technical failure in one of its engine parts last month, but the engineering teams repaired and replaced some damaged pieces.

For his part, Aden Airport Director Tareq Abdu confirmed that the plane was carrying about 180 passengers, explaining that the Yemeni airways took the necessary procedures for passengers and booked for them rooms in hotels at the expense of the company.

Yemen Airways uses Boeing and Airbus planes. After many planes were subjected to technical failures, the Yemeni government, last week, approved renting aircraft from Arab airlines to transport stranded Yemeni passengers in Egypt, Jordan and other Arab and non-Arab countries.
