CAIRO, Egypt (AP) – A powerful Egyptian business tycoon is denying that he hired a hit-man to slay a Lebanese singer in Dubai.

Hisham Talaat Moustafa is speaking out for the first time about his arrest earlier this month.

In a letter published Saturday in the pro-government newspaper Akhbar al-Youm, Moustafa says he is innocent and accuses “enemies of success” of fabricating the case against him.

Moustafa, a lawmaker and top ruling party member, was arrested Sept. 2. He is accused of hiring a former police officer to kill singer and former girlfriend Suzanne Tamim. She was found decapitated in her Dubai apartment in July. His trial is scheduled to open Oct. 18.
