CAIRO (AP) – An Egyptian official says it appears nobody drowned after two passenger boats collided on the Nile.

The official said the search was continuing Saturday but rescuers have not found any bodies and police are not reporting anybody missing. The official works in the Beheira province governor’s office. He asked that his name not be used because he is not authorized to speak to the media.

Two privately owned motorboats collided Friday on the Nile in northern Egypt, sparking massive concern because there was no official record of how many people were on board.

Egypt has frequent transportation accidents, mainly because of poor infrastructure. A ferry sinking in 2006 killed more than 1,000 people.
