ISMAILIA, Egypt, (Reuters) – Egyptian border forces detained an Israeli who illegally crossed into Egypt on a motorcycle on Saturday, Egyptian security sources said.

An Israeli army spokesman confirmed that an Israeli citizen had crossed the border into Egypt. He declined to give further details.

One of the Egyptian security sources said the Israeli man, named as 36 year-old Sagi Meir Fakhouri, was seized while crossing the barbed wire that marks the border.

The reason for his entering Egypt was being investigated with Israeli authorities, the source added.

In March, Egypt held an Israeli journalist for a week after he entered the country and tried to track the movement of African migrants seeking work or asylum in Israel.

The journalist said he had paid refugee smuggling gangs to let him witness their operations and slip back into Israel with the migrants.
