VIENNA, Austria, (AP) – Talks meant to give Tehran a last chance to avoid U.N. sanctions were in jeopardy on Wednesday, with diplomats and European officials saying Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator had still not confirmed if he would meet with the European Union’s foreign policy chief.

The talks had been tentatively set for Wednesday in Vienna as a final attempt to see if there was common ground to start negotiations between six world powers and Iran, despite Tehran’s defiance of a U.N. Security Council demand that it freeze uranium enrichment.

But Iran’s Foreign Minister Manoucher Mottaki said discussions were still continuing to fix a date and venue for the talks.
