London- U.N. Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed said that an integrated plan for Yemeni reconciliation will be launched during the next two weeks.

The U.N. Special Envoy said that the Houthis in Yemen have initially approved a 72-hour ceasefire that might be extended. Oman News Agency (ONA) reported that Ould Cheikh will announce the ceasefire in the upcoming days.

Friday, Ould Cheikh headed to Saudi Arabia to meet with Yemeni President Abdu Rabbu Mansour Hadi, given that the efforts exerted to find a solution for the Yemeni crisis have increased especially after the direct political talks hosted by Kuwait for 90 days came to an end on 7 August.

Ould Cheikh’s visit reveals that he is probably adopting a new methodology through meeting every party individually.

“I discussed with the Houthis the inclusive plan that tackles political and security matters as well as their commitment to these issues,” the U.N. envoy said.

According to Ould Cheikh, the ceasefire plan was divided into two tracks: launching an extendable 72-hour ceasefire and activating the De-escalation and Coordination Committee (DCC).

Speaking on his visit to Saudi Arabia, Ould Cheikh said, “I met the Saudi party, the Yemeni president and government and they have all renewed their dedication to the peaceful solution since the crisis in Yemen can’t be solved but peacefully.

“Everyone is convinced of that and there is a support from Saudi Arabia and the Yemeni government”, he said, adding that he will be back to Muscat to resume consultations before heading back to Paris during the upcoming days to meet French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault.
