CIA to Participate in Somali Bombing Investigation | ASHARQ AL-AWSAT English Archive 2005 -2017

Mogadishu, Asharq Al-Awsat- Somali President Abdullah Yusuf Ahmed has stated that the bombing attempt on his life the day before yesterday bared the hallmarks of al-Qaeda.

President Abdullah Yusuf Ahmed survived an attempt on his life, when two car-bombs exploded near his convoy. Yusuf’s brother and 10 of his bodyguards were killed in the explosion and dozens of bystanders were wounded.

According to high level government sources that spoke to Asharq al-Awsat on the condition of anonymity that agents from the U.S. Central Bureau of Investigations (CIA) is expected to take part in the investigation and would be arriving on Thursday from the American base in neighboring Djibouti.

Meanwhile, a senior official in the Islamic Courts Union (ICU) told reporters the organization was about to open training facilities for Somali students, where they would be taught fighting skills. The official added that the students would be trained to fight any foreign force that enters Somalia.
