ADEN, (Reuters) – A Panamanian-flagged cargo ship sank off the coast of Yemen on Wednesday but coastguards rescued all 27 people on board, state news agency Saba reported.

“The coastguard received a distress signal this morning from the ship which … was flying the Panamanian flag. The coastguard, in coordination with a foreign military ship, saved the crew,” Saba quoted a security official as saying.

He told Saba the ship was built by a South Korean company.

Another security official told Reuters a technical fault had caused a fire to break out on the ship, which then sank some 130 nautical miles from the Yemeni port of Aden.

It was not immediately clear what kind of cargo the ship was carrying or where it was heading.
