Bush, Australian Premier Resolve to Defeat Terrorists | ASHARQ AL-AWSAT English Archive 2005 -2017

Washington-U.S. President George W. Bush met on Tuesday morning at the Oval Office here Australian Prime Minister John Howard to reinforce their alliance in the war against terrorism.

The two leaders discussed a number of topics, including relations with China, efforts to disarm North Korea, and the war against terrorism. Bush told reporters following the meeting that &#34The United States and Australia share a commitment to freedom.&#34

&#34We understand that we compete against an ideology of hatred, an ideology that murders the innocent to achieve their objectives,&#34 Bush told reporters.

The leaders also discussed their nations” involvement in Iraq. Bush said: &#34We”re going to help Iraqis defend themselves, and at the same time promote a political process that will lead to a constitution, the validation of a constitution, and permanent elections.&#34

Howard thanked the United States for taking on most of the burden of the Iraq war, and pledged solidarity with the Bush administration in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
