BAGHDAD (AP) – Police say a bomb attached to a car in the Iraqi capital wounded five people, including three bodyguards of a Shiite lawmaker.

A police official at the scene told The Associated Press Monday that Izzat Ashabander was not in the convoy when it was targeted. He said two of the wounded were bystanders. Pools of blood could be seen on the ground next to the burnt-out pickup truck.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press.

Although overall violence has decreased, bombings still happen several times a day in Iraq. Many analysts say they expect violence to increase in the run-up to the March polls.
