Yemeni Presidential Advisor, Ahmed bin Dagher, revealed that Ismail Ould Cheikh, UN envoy to Yemen, failed to convince the insurgents to get back to the talks with the legitimacy’s delegation, until now. That and the settings of the next session remain unclear, taking into account the fact that the situation in Yemen does not provide an atmosphere for talks to further resume.

Ould Cheikh met with the legitimacy’s delegation led by Abdel Malek Al Mekhlafi, Yemeni Foreign Minister, on January 16, in order to look into the latest developments on the next round of talks with the insurgents under UN sponsorship.

However, bin Dagher and another member of the legitimacy’s delegation, clarified to Asharq Al-Awsat that the legitimacy has “welcomed the freeing of the detained Yemenis and Saudis; nevertheless, the Houthis and former President Ali Abdullah Saleh, regrettably deal with homeland suits and people’s pain with triviality and irresponsibility, and we will not get out of this crisis as long as such mindsets are ruling the country”.
“Freeing detainees and lifting Taiz’s blockade are not conditions for the talks to resume, but commitments and compelling measures for them, according to the agreed upon agenda” bin Dagher pointed out.
“They regrettably still receive directions from Tehran, which does not wish well for us and does not want peace for our country nor the region” He added.

Bin Dagher said that the UN envoy’s trip to Sana’a “took up to five days, and its result on the general outlook does not provide a better atmosphere for the upcoming talks”.

“We know that the UN envoy is putting forward good efforts that we appreciate, however he still has not been able to convince the insurgents to immediately return to the talks, and that is why a place has not been set for the talks today, and it seems that he discarded the side that is holding the talks with the Houthis and Saleh to reach to an agreement with them, conversely he will shortly discover that they are stalling and tergiversating” he added.
