Manama – Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs objected on Monday the statements of U.S. and British Foreign Ministries criticizing its decision to dissolve the Wefaq Association.

The ministry considered these statements as “unacceptable interference” in the Bahraini internal affairs.

“Bahrain expresses its deep regret at the statements from the British foreign secretary and U.S. State Department and considers them as unacceptable interference in its internal affairs,” said Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.

“Such statements and positions are unacceptable interference in the internal affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain, and in the decisions of the Bahraini judicial process, which provides all necessary standards of justice, fairness, transparency and independence,” the ministry added.

On Sunday, Bahraini court decided to dissolve the al-Wefaq, accused of helping foster violence and terrorism, was “just” and “transparent.”

The ministry also expressed its deep regrets regarding the statement of British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson as well as the statement issued by U.S. State Department.

Boris expressed deep concern at Sunday’s ruling and urged Bahrain to guarantee political freedoms to all its citizens. While the U.S. State Department said that dissolving Wefaq undermined Bahrain’s and region’s stability.

Bahrain said it wanted to take into account the interests of its allies and partners to preserve “distinctive and historical relations” with them.

“Everybody must support the measures taken by the state against those who violate the law, incite violence and are linked with forces abroad,” the Bahraini ministry added.
