Manama – A Bahraini court sentenced six people to life in prison for being involved in terrorist activities including planting a bomb, targeting security officers, and jeopardizing Bahrain’s security and stability.

Chief Prosecutor Hamad Shaheen said the High Criminal Court sentenced six suspects – four detainees and two fugitives- to life in jail after finding them guilty of possessing explosive devices, causing an explosion and attempting to murder police officers in Maameer.

On May 30, 2015 the convicts planned to place a homemade bomb near the entry of the village of Maameer and lure the police officers to the scene with the intention of killing them, putting people’s lives at risk, scaring them, undermining Bahrain’s security and stability and destroying private and public interests.

When police officers approached the location, they suspected the nature of the device and notified the specialized authorities. A group of experts managed to defuse the bomb.

Shaheen pointed out that in their investigation, the authorities relied on testimonies from the prosecution witnesses as well as technical evidence.

All suspects, including the four in custody, were referred to the High Criminal Court for trial, which ordered the arrest of the two fugitives.

The court issued the verdict after hearing the case in the presence of the defendants’ lawyers who were provided with all legal guarantees.
