Beirut, Lebanon, Asharq Al-Awsat- Asharq Al-Awsat’s Beirut staff discovered mysterious holes in the windows of its offices on Saturday, similar to holes found on the external parts of the buildings air-conditioning system on Tuesday .

Following an investigation carried out by Lebanese authorities, it became clear that the cause of the damage on part of our newspaper offices, which occupy a section of the building of Saudi Research and Publishing, were bullets.

Asharq Al-Awsat has received a number of threatening letters during its coverage of the events in Lebanon and we see this incident as a deliberate act and a threat.

We do appreciate the Lebanese security authorities and their prompt response, but we also express our deep concern for the safety of our journalists and staff in Lebanon. We would also like to ascertain that we will remain committed to Asharq Al-Awsat’s editorial policy, which is based on professional and impartial journalistic coverage, and we will continue to give individuals the right to express their views in our opinion pages.
