Arab Foreign Ministers Start Meetings | ASHARQ AL-AWSAT English Archive 2005 -2017

Cairo- The meetings of the 124th session of the Arab Foreign Ministers Council started here today under the chairmanship of Jordan.

Prince Saud Al-faisal, the Foreign Minister, led the Saudi delegation to the meeting.

At the outset of the meeting, Jordan”s Foreign Minister Farooq Alqasrawi, allocated one minute for the attendants to appeal to Almighty Allah to bestow his mercy upon the soul of late King Fahd bin Abdulaziz in recognition of his role in defending the rights of his people, Arab and Islamic nations and international community. They wished King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, who succeeded him, every success.

Also addressing the opening ceremony, the Foreign Minister of Yemen Dr. Abubakr Algarbi, who chaired the last session according to rotating system, called for the adoption of a comprehensive strategy to eradicate the roots of terrorism, reminding his listeners of the most recent terrorist accidents in Sharam Al-sheikh and London.

He called on the security council to work for the strict implementation of the road map, noting that the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza was not complete on one hand and that Israel was continuing the building of separation wall which he called a new obstacle before the final solution of the problem on the other hand.

He underscored the importance of the unity and stability of Iraq and the support for Sudan”s peace and rehabilitation and called on the Somalis to come out with one government.

Then the meeting turned into a closed-door session for the ministers and heads of delegations.
