Yemen – The Saudi-led Arab Coalition is playing a significant role in supporting the legitimacy in Yemen, strategic experts stressed.

Yemeni analyst Najib Ghallab and political academic Hussein Laqwer imagined how the future of Yemen would have been hadn’t been for the intervention of the Arab Coalition in March 2015.

Ghallab described how the things developed when Iranian officials said that they controlled Sana’a, the fourth Arab capital. He added that afterwards, Houthis began doing military maneuvers near the Saudi border, sending a clear message to the world.

At the same time, delegations were sent to Tehran to sign different treaties, while Iranian planes landed daily in Sana’a.

Ghallab believes that all these incidents indicate the coup in Yemen was an Iranian plot executed through their Houthi proxy.

Ghallab, who is also former political science professor in Sana’a University and heads al-Jazeera Center for Studies, said that Saudi Arabia and Gulf states have always been the most powerful countries to stand against the Iranian interventions in the region.

“Iran saw that Yemen was the weak spot through which it can infiltrate the Arab region and create a change in the geostrategic struggle,” added Ghallab.

The analyst believes that Arab intervention was necessary. “Things would have led to a long term chaos. Or, the country would have been run by a tyrant regime controlled by the Providence of the Jurist (Wilayat al-Faqih) through its militias that are against the Gulf and Saudi Arabia in particular.”

Ghallab stressed that the Arab coalition’s intervention in Yemen was a natural and proactive response to direct threats that endanger the continuity and security of nations. He added that “Operation Decisive Storm” uncovered the threats posed by Saleh and Houthi forces.

He concluded that the Saudi-led coalition was able to bring the legitimacy back in control over all Yemeni territories and contain the Iranian power, while putting an end to its schemes. He even said that the coalition uncovered the truth that Houthis are only Iran’s proxies against Yemen.

Meanwhile, political academic Hussein Laqwer declared that it would have been difficult to envision how the regional situation would have become had Houthis succeeded in controlling Yemen amid continuous struggles in Arab states.

He added that several militias led by Iran created chaos whether in Iraq, Syria, or Lebanon.

Laqwer pointed out that it would have been disastrous if Houthis and Salah were able to take control of Aden.

He praised Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states for taking the historic decision in supporting the legitimacy in Yemen.

The academic explained that the coalition’s support for the legitimacy put an end to Iran’s involvement in the Arab Peninsula, averting Aden a destiny similar to Baghdad.

He also applauded Operation Decisive Storm and Operation Renewal of Hope and their execution of the right strike to end Iran’s threat to international navigation, stability and security of the region, and consequently the world.
