Algeria-Former Algerian Prime Minister Ali Benflis said that he suggests, in the name of the opposition, unanimous political dialogue and an open democratic prospect as a way out of the unbearable regime crisis.

The opposition is planning to organize massive protests in the capital’s streets in order to put pressure on the regime to negotiate with them on what the opposition call “presidential vacancy because of illness”.

In a meeting on Tuesday with the opposition party cadres headed by “Vanguard of Freedoms”, Benflis said that the opposition declared that the time has come for democratic change and that all the minor battles waged by a political system that has lost control will not be able to postpone it or rewind its events.

Benflis also urged the party’s fighters not to give up or surrender to those threats neither to become false witnesses to the tragedy that has hit Algeria or let go of all what is happening to the homeland.

“We will never give up…we will not accept our people to feel all this pain they don’t deserve to experience,” he said in reference to the severe economic crisis that has affected a large number of people due to reducing support programs and government expenditure after the revenues fully dependent on oil and fuel selling prices have deflated.

On the other hand, the International Monetary Fund revealed in its latest report that the Algerian reserve will drop into $29 billion by the end of 2017. It also stated that it has reached $140 billion this year, which shows that the reserve has fell by around $35 billion from the previous year while energy earnings have dropped 40.8 percent in the same period.

Benflis said that no matter how disappointing the policies adopted by the current political system are, and despite their enormous failure, they can be overcome with political willingness and courage that could only be found in people and institutions that represent Algerians. He added that no matter how deep the despair caused by this political system is, with hope anything Algerians can face and improve everything.

Opposition parties have gathered in March in order to try finding new ways to urge the country’s authority to accept negotiating with them and solve this political and economic crisis.

In principle, large protests in the capital will be organized by Algerian oppositions in order to push the authority to hold talks with them. The opposition also wants these protests to be carried on before June; however, the government is hindering any kind of objection in the capital for security reasons.

Nevertheless, people loyal to President Abdulaziz Bouteflika say that Algerians have elected him for the fourth time in 2014 and whoever wants to succeed him will have to wait until 2019. They also said that Algerians knew back then that their president was sick, therefore only he should decide his successor.
