Aid Organisation: Hospitals in Syria Are Being Bombed Every Day | ASHARQ AL-AWSAT English Archive 2005 -2017

A Syrian non-governmental organisation (NGO) yesterday announced that bombing carried out by the Syrian regime and its Russian ally on hospitals in Syria has intensified in the past few days, and that a hospital was targeted almost every day last week in opposition controlled areas.

The Union of Syrian Medical Care and Relief Organisations which brings together doctors from the Syrian diaspora and is active in opposition areas said in a statement released in Paris yesterday that was reported by Agence France-Presse “The bombing of hospitals and medical institutions is intensifying”.

He added that “Three hospitals and several medical centres were hit by air strikes at the weekend. During the week, one hospital was bombed almost daily”.

A hospital in north-west Aleppo was bombed on Saturday, whilst a hospital in Deraa, another in west Aleppo and the Centre for Forensic Medicine in Aleppo was bombed on Sunday.

The charity Save the Children announced on Friday that a maternity hospital that it sponsors was bombed in the province of Idlib in north-western Syria. This caused injuries and destruction.

Forces belonging to the Syrian regime have besieged opposition neighbourhoods in Aleppo since July the 17th. No international assistance has been admitted since the 7th of July to these areas that are being bombed heavily by the regime’s aircraft and that of its ally Russia.
