65% of Saudis use Laptops for Educational Purposes | ASHARQ AL-AWSAT English Archive 2005 -2017

Riyadh, Asharq Al-Awsat- A survey published by Intel shows that a large number of Saudis use their laptops for educational purposes. 65% of individuals who took part in the poll stated that their laptops are used for their studies, which is 16% higher than rates in other countries.

The Paradigm Research Company carried out this survey in Saudi Arabia and Lebanon, in which more than 300 users from various fields took part. The study comes two years after launching Intel Centrino Mobile Technology, which produces lighter and thinner notebooks with a high portable performance and longer battery life. Samir Shammaa, Chief Executive Officer for Intel in the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council, said, &#34the results of the survey prove that Saudis use computers as tools for education to help them acquire more skills and attain important information necessary for this present time. It is very encouraging to find this enthusiasm in the kingdom of using technology in educational fields.&#34

Furthermore, the key advantages to laptops for Saudi Arabians according to the study are accessibility, mobility, and the flexibility that they provide. As much as 83% of participants in the survey referred to the increasing flexibility offered by laptops as an essential feature that enables them to connect to the internet at any time and in any place.

More apparent however, is the fact that technology and the daily lives of citizens of the kingdom have intertwined. Demonstrating this point are the 45% of participants in the survey who said that they used their laptops on a daily basis whereas only 4% used it once a week or less. When asked to clarify the biggest advantage of laptops, 72% of users mentioned the convenience of mobility.

Other than education, people considered checking their e-mails and surfing the Internet as main reasons for the use of laptops.
