CAIRO, Egypt (AP) – An Egyptian security official says a tourist bus overturned in the country’s south, killing six Belgian tourists and injuring 26 other Belgian passengers.

The official says the bus was en route Friday morning to the ancient temple at Abu Simbel, a famous tourist attraction. He says the driver was speeding and lost control, veered off the road and the bus overturned several times.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to speak to the press. He says the injured have been taken to a nearby hospital.

The Belgian foreign ministry in Brussels has no immediate comment.

Egypt has a history of serious bus and car crashes because of speeding, careless driving and poor road conditions.
