Riyadh, Asharq Al-Awsat—The chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Research & Marketing Group (SRMG), Sheikh Abdullah Salem Bahamdan, has issued a decree appointing Salman Al-Dossary as the new editor-in-chief of Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper.

Al-Dossary’s appointment takes effect as of July 1, 2014. The decree was approved by the SRMG’s Board of Directors and endorsed by the Board of Trustees of the HH Saudi Research and Publishing Company (SRPC).

Al-Dossary will replace Dr. Adel Al Toraifi, who has joined the Al-Arabiya television news channel as Deputy General Manager.

The new editor-in-chief holds a BA in Business Administration and Economics. He started his career in journalism with SRMG in 1998 as a freelance journalist writing for Riyadh-based Al Eqtisadiah newspaper before joining Asharq Al-Awsat as Bahrain correspondent in 2004.

In 2006 he was appointed as a senior editor at Asharq Al-Awsat‘s United Arab Emirates bureau. Three years later, Al-Dossary was appointed Assistant Editor-In-Chief of Asharq Al-Awsat at the publication’s headquarters in London. In October 2011, Al-Dossary became the Editor-In-Chief of Al Eqtisadiah.

Al-Dossary has expressed his thanks and appreciation to the SRMG Board of Directors and the SRPC Board of Trustees for their trust in choosing him editor-in-chief of the prestigious pan-Arab newspaper. He stressed that he will continue the distinguished editorial policy of the London-based publication. Al-Dossary also thanked his predecessor for his efforts during his tenure, wishing him good luck and success in his new post.
