Asharq Al Awsat – A committee made up of a number of Saudi security sectors in the governorate of Wadi al Dawasir that specializes in following up the cases of prisoners has released twelve detainees following the issue of a royal pardon by Prince Salman Bin Abdulaziz, the Governor of Riyadh.

The procedures taken for the pardon were supervised by Captain Khalid Bin Mutlaq al Utaibi, who heads the prison of Wadi al Dawasir. He said the pardon “is to allow prisoners to enjoy the Eid-ul-Fitr festivities with their families and friends.”

A number of released prisoners expressed their appreciation of the leadership and its policy of forgiveness and tolerance towards those who have wronged themselves and society.

Last week, security authorities in Wadi al Dawasir arrested a gang, consisting of three foreign workers, for robbery. The gang stole equipment used for farming and was arrested following complaints made by some residents who told security officers that their farms were being targeted by thieves.

Undercover police officers raided the gang’s whereabouts and found 35 bags full of electric cables, 750 kilos of copper cables worth 26,000 Saudi Riyals (approximately $7000 US) and a large amount of batteries and radiators as well as 400 Saudi Riyals. It was also reported that some items were loaded onto a truck to transport the stolen goods to Riyadh.
