Saudi: New Program to Ensure School Participation in National Dialogue | ASHARQ AL-AWSAT English Archive 2005 -2017

Riyadh, Asharq Al-Awsat- For the first time ever a program to ensure school participation in the Kingdom’s national dialogue has been implemented all across Saudi Arabia.

Education Minister Dr. Abdullah al-Obaid directed all the education departments for both boys and girls to allocate 10 minutes within the school day to discuss the importance of dialogue in Islam and to acquaint the students with the national dialogue. This directive stems from the fact that the education minister is a member of the chairmanship committee of the National Dialogue Center, in addition to the recognized partnership between the center and the Saudi Education Ministry.

Fasial Bin-Muammar, secretary general of the King Abdulaziz Center for National Dialogue, told Asharq Al-Awsat that the program aims at activating the dialogue in

Schools through on promoting the concepts and mechanisms of the dialogue within the schools. The director of every school will address the school assembly about the concept of “Education: Facts and Ways of Development (the title of the Sixth National Dialogue Forum)” and about the importance of dialogue for the individual and society. Also there will be an address by the Islamic education teacher about the concepts of dialogue in Islam. Moreover, in every school 10 minutes will be allocated in every lesson for discussing the importance and role of dialogue in developing the individual and the society; one of the experts will be invited to talk about the concepts and proprieties of dialogue; a workshop conducted by the school deputy head teacher about the methods of developing education; and a composition lesson will be allocated for talking and writing about the concepts, proprieties, and benefits of dialogue for the individual, family, and society.
