Dammam, Asharq Al-Awsat- A new website based in Saudi Arabia specializing in Al-Misyar marriage (a marriage without the couple living together in the same house, where the husband is not financially responsible for his wife) has received 8000 requests from inside and outside the Kingdom over a three month period according to the sites administrator Sheikh Radwan al-Hamadi.

Al-Hamadi pointed out that most of the requests received by Almisyar.com were from Gulf States, adding that the website has also “received many requests from Muslim communities in Europe, Australia and America, because of their urgent need for this kind of marriage”

According to Sheikh al-Hamadi, the oldest male applicant to contact the popular website thus far has been 59 year old, while female applicants’ ages have not surpassed that of 40.

Almisyar.com differs from other marriage websites as it only operates in accordance with Islamic tradition.

If a candidate finds a potential partner then communication is established between the potential groom and the bride’s guardians and a religiously lawful meeting is then set up for them to meet.

He noted that the website poses a number of questions and conditions on, employment, social status, education level and ethnic affiliation, with the site emphasizing the need for complete transparency and honest in the information provided from the applicants.

Almisyar.com has so far been responsible for 9 marriages involving people from different nationalities. Al-Hamadi expects that figure to increase significantly in the near future.
