Mecca, Asharq Al-Awsat – Muslim academics, who participated in the first International Forum of the Muslim Scholars, organized by the Muslim World League (MWL), have issued a joint pledge that Islam advocates moderation and calls for avoiding extremism.

The pledge underscored the importance of preaching Islam in the proper manner.

It said the religious and cultural unity constitutes an important step on the path of the comprehensive unity.

The pledge called for the implementation of the teachings of the holy Quran and sunnah (the prophet’s teachings) and to follow the way of the venerable forefathers.

The pledge underlined the importance of the Muslim unity and solidarity as well as carrying out projects like the Islamic common market.

It also called for coordination and cooperating in the field of issuing Fatwas taking the holy Quran and Sunnah as reference.
