Riyadh- Aiming to spread the culture and history of the Arabian Peninsula and Saudi Arabia, the “Roads of Arabia” exhibition hits its second stop in Asia. Prince Sultan bin Salman, president of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage, and Pyung oh-Kwon, the South Korean ambassador to Riyadh will open the “Roads of Arabia” exhibition of Saudi archaeological masterpieces on May 8 in the National Museum of Seoul.

Visitors of the exhibition will have the chance to see the door of Al-Kaaba made at the request of the Ottoman Sultan Murad IV in 1040 hegira (four decades ago). The door is composed of two sides decorated by metal plates with architectural trims.

The “Roads of Arabia” exhibition was previously held in four European countries, five American cities, and started in a national version at the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture in Dhahran.

The commission and the Seoul National Museum finished all preparations for this important cultural event. The historic masterpieces have been installed in the venue, and the exhibition-related publications have been printed in cooperation with the officials in the museum and the Saudi King’s embassy in Seoul.

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Chinese President Xi Jinping visited the exhibition opened by Prince Sultan in China on December 20, 2016.

The exhibition, which was held at the Beijing National Museum, ran over three months.

The upcoming exhibition in Seoul will feature 466 rare Saudi archaeological and historical masterpieces that introduce the Kingdom’s cultural heritage and perspective.

It also highlights the different historic eras that marked presence in the region from the old stone age and pre-Islamic epochs till the early, middle, and late Arabic kingdoms, along with the establishment of the Saudi state in its three stages since 1744.

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques opened the national version of the “Roads of Arabia” exhibition of Saudi archaeological masterpieces at the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture in Dhahran in December 2016. He also launched the exhibition’s tour in Eastern Asia starting from Beijing, after the outstanding success achieved in the nine previous stops including the Louvre museum in Paris in 2010, La Caixa Foundation in Spain, the Hermitage Museum in Russia, Pergamon Museum in Berlin and then the Asian Art museum in San Francisco.

This event marks a major step in the King’s project to protect Saudi Arabia’s heritage. It aims at informing the world on the history and civilization of the Arabian Peninsula and Saudi Arabia through its ancient treasures.

It also enhances the cultural communication among the world’s populations, and shed lights on Saudi Arabia as an ancient entity that paved the way to the foundation of majestic humanitarian civilizations which were crowned with the Great Islamic Civilization.
