London-The world’s oldest underground rail network took a big step forward this weekend when the “tube” started all-night Friday and Saturday services, which analysts said would boost the capital’s economy by millions of pounds.

“I’m really pleased & proud that today the #NightTube is here. #LondonIsOpen,” Mayor of London Sadiq Khan tweeted.

“It will support thousands of workers who have to travel to or from work at night, it will provide huge economic benefits to our vital night-time economy and it will help Londoner’s get home quickly and safely after a night out,” Khan said.

According to Transport for London, the first Night Tube services are now running on the Central 74-kilometer line and the 21-kilometer Victoria line, with services on the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines following in autumn.

The Night Tube will offer a 24-hour service on Fridays and Saturdays, it said.

The financial analysts predicted that the new services could boost the city’s economy by up to 77 million pounds annually and support tens of thousands of new jobs by 2029.
