Paris- Iraqi-born novelist Inaam Kachachi, journalist at Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, has won the Lagardere Award for Arab Novel, which is introduced in cooperation with the Arab World Institute in Paris.

The jury of nine cultural figures has decided to give the award to Kachachi for her novel “Tashari” that has been translated to French and published by Gallimard early this year.

It is the first time that this award goes to an Iraqi figure; Kachachi has ranked first, followed by Moroccan novelist Reda Dalil for his novel “Best Seller” published in French by the Fnac Publication House in Morocco.

Lagardere French Group, which owns many publication houses, newspapers, and channels, has funded the award introduced to Arab writers who write or translate their works to French.

The jury was chaired by the renowned French writer, Pierre Leroi, and included other Arab and Francophone figures.

Five other novels participated in the competition, including “Women Villas” for Lebanese writer Charif Majdalani and “Open Heart” for poet Abdo Wazen.

Since its launch in 2013, the award was received by Lebanese writer Jabbour Douaihy, Egyptian novelist Mohammad al-Fakharany in 2014, and the Saudi novelist, Mohammed Hasan Alwan, in 2015.

On this occasion, the family of Asharq Al-Awsat congratulates its colleague Kachachi and wishes her more success.
