Berlin, London- A new German study showed that one of every 17 youths in Germany drop out before finishing high school, reducing their chances of finding a job.

According to data collected by the German Caritas Association in 2015, nearly 47,435 German youths in different German cities leave education before reaching high school.

Commenting on this negative development, the German News Agency quoted president of the German Caritas Association Dr. Peter Neher as saying that youngsters who drop out of school before finishing high school have less chance of finding a job and living decently without relying on government support compared to their peers.

According to the study, the rate of youths who dropped out of school has significantly increased in the German governorates: Hamburg from 4.9% to 6%, Rheinland-Pfalz from 5.6% to 6.4%, and Saxony from 9.2% to 9.9%.

The study showed, however, the dropout rate declined in other governorates like Hessen from 4.9% to 4.2%, and Brandenburg from 7.8% to 7.1%.

Neher saw that the political will plays a decisive role in this hike along with the academic policies and the socio-economic structure in the governorates that witnessed school dropout. He said that cooperation among political parties, schools, youth associations, work entities, charity organizations, and the economic sector is a must to boost the number of students who complete their school education.
