LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Morocco is about to get a lot bloodier. And there will probably be a few more dragons wandering around the countryside.

“Game of Thrones” will begin production on its third season in early July, HBO said Wednesday, with Morocco being added as a location for the series’ carnage-happy shenanigans.

The HBO fantasy drama’s production will continue to be based in Belfast, Northern Ireland, with shooting taking place in that city and other locales in Northern Ireland. The series also will return to Croatia and Iceland for additional production.

The addition of Morocco isn’t the only change coming to “Game of Thrones” for its upcoming third season; the show is also adding a host of new directors for its third go-round, including showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, who will helm the series for the first time.

Other new directors coming aboard for Season 3 include Alex Graves (“The Newsroom,” “Terra Nova”) and Michelle MacLaren (“Breaking Bad”). Dan Minahan, David Nutter and Alik Sakharov, who have previously directed episodes of the series, will return to the directors’ chairs.

Casting for the third season is currently underway, with announcements coming soon, HBO said.
