Britain Celebrates Ramadan, Communicates with Muslims on Social Media

London- The British government has organized a campaign to celebrate Ramadan and launched it on social media platforms to reach Muslims in Britain and abroad. Reports and news on the Holy Month will be published on the British foreign ministry’s Arabic social media outlets and will also be shared with the Arabic media outlets.

Speaking to the German News Agency, Edwin Samuel, Britain’s spokesman for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) said many reports on Muslims, cohabitation, and religious plurality in the kingdom will be published in Arabic.

He added: “Britain is proud of cohabitation and religious plurality and will always be so. During Ramadan, we seek to highlight the cultural and religious diversity in Britain and enhance communication among Muslims worldwide.” Samuel considered that Ramadan carries great values which are the values of Islam.

“In this month, we remember and unite in solidarity with refugees and displaced people in the region, and we hope their miseries will end soon,” he noted.

The campaign will include reports on the lives of Muslim policewomen in Ramadan, and the role of Muslims in the public life in Britain. It will also include an open dialogue with Samuel who will communicate with the Arabic audience on Facebook.

Samuel has already started to share short videos on his Twitter account in which he speaks about his experience in Ramadan from many Arabic countries.

This is not the first time Samuel celebrates the Muslim holy month publicly, and this Ramadan he fasted the first day in solidarity with Syrian refugees.

The center of media and regional communication of the British government located in Dubai said it would use a special hashtag dedicated for the holy month on the British foreign ministry’s Arabic social media accounts. In a congratulation cable addressed for Muslims, the ministry said the Kingdom is proud of the strong ties that relate it to the Islamic world, and that members of its diplomatic missions in the world will celebrate this month with the Islamic communities where they live and work.

Significantly, over three million Muslims live in Britain, and Muslims coming from Arab countries make around 7% of the kingdom’s total population.
