London- Asharq Al-Awsat has launched a new website and a mobile version Sunday with a new interactive identity that is committed to the newspaper’s editorial policy. The phone’s version is closer to an application and relies on the green identity of the newspaper as well as the difference in the appearance between the print and e-version, which enables the reader to browse easily and comprehensively all what is published on the online version.

Sunday’s release comes as a first step, where readers and users will get the chance to give their notes and feedback over the next four weeks for amendments, engaging them in building an interactive and inclusive website that will continue to browse the contents for many years to come.

On this occasion, a search engine has been included in both versions of all the articles that were published in the newspaper since 2000 until today, and the next step is to include the entire newspaper’s archive and make it available to readers and researchers.

The desktop and mobile versions have focused on the interactive library that brings together the visual production of the newspaper with its graphics and the infographics in which the reader can return to it any time.

The design is based on simplicity and clarity, allowing the display of as much content as possible on the home page of the site. The reader also does not need to return to the home page to read more articles, as at the end of every story a new selection from the paper content will be displayed for the viewer to choose from.

The new design embraces a new section where readers can follow up with all the breaking news in one column before they are updated to full articles. As for the sections of the internal content of the newspaper, the new site divided each section to become somehow like an independent newspaper with its content, designed to allow those interested in politics, culture or sport to browse their preferred section directly.

Head of the Digital Service at Asharq Al-Awsat Adhwan al-Ahmari said that the new site is close to the classic version but with a new visual identity that allows the reader to browse what he wants, either what is published electronically around the clock or investigations and in-depth news published in the paper version.

“Asharq Al-Awsat’s editorial staff mainly backs up the websites and applications and serves as its main pillar. The most widespread and influential newspaper has strong content, and the website’s mission is not only to follow the breaking news or to be live and interactive around the clock but also to provide this paper in a modern interactive way and present it to the e-reader clearly,” Ahmar told Asharq Al-Awsat.

Ahmari stressed that the new website is part of a new digital plan with new identity that was approved by Editor in Chief Ghassan Charbel early this year. A number of colleagues participated in launching the site, including Hamza Naji, Abdelilah Sirokh, Abdullah Awad Abdullah, Ahmed Bakhashwain and Taha Abdo, along with the following up of many colleagues in the newspaper until the launch of the new website.
