London-Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Adel al-Jubeir payed a special visit on Wednesday to Asharq Al-Awsat’s newspaper, which is headquartered in London.

The Minister was accompanied by a delegation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, including Ambassador Mohammed bin Nawwaf bin Abdulaziz and Chairman of the Media Department at the Foreign Ministry Ambassador Osama Naqli.

The delegation was received by Asharq Al-Awsat’s Editor-in-Chief Salman al-Dossary and his assistants Aidarous Abdulaziz and Zaid bin Kami, in addition to Asharq Al-Awsat’s editorial board from heads of departments, senior editors and journalists.

Al-Jubeir briefed the editorial board with the most recent political developments witnessed by the Middle East and the Kingdom’s role in these developments.

Moreover, since the Saudi Minister participated in the “London 11” meeting within Friends of Syria Group in London on Wednesday, the Syrian crisis and international stances, especially those of Russia and Iran, were the most tackled subjects.

Al-Jubeir was also asked whether there was compatibility between Moscow and Tehran’s stances regarding the Syrian crisis and what was meant by “Plan B” in Syria.

In addition to that, al-Jubeir highlighted the latest developments regarding Iran preventing its citizens from performing Hajj and its attacks against Saudi Arabia.

He confirmed that all the negative repercussions ignited by Iran due to its intervention in the internal affairs of countries in the Middle East, such as Syria and Iraq, are leading to chaos in the region.

Al-Jubeir also answered the journalists’ questions regarding the Yemeni crisis, the path of the country’s peace talks, and the general atmosphere surrounding Saudi foreign relations, especially with major powers like Russia and China.

He disclosed the latest developments in bilateral relations with Moscow that aim at reaching a wide future cooperation. He also confirmed the importance of the social and economic changes carried by “Saudi Vision 2030” for Saudi citizens.

Last but not least, al-Jubeir hailed Asharq Al-Awsat’s role in delivering its media message in line with professional standards, which the Arab international newspaper is characterized with.

He stressed the role of Arab media in carrying out its responsibility to deliver the correct news for the audience no matter where.

At the end of the meeting, the Editor-in-Chief gave the Saudi Foreign Minister the first issue of Asharq Al-Awsat’s newspaper as a gift.
