Next Generation of Microsoft Database and Development Solutions on Show at Gitex | ASHARQ AL-AWSAT English Archive 2005 -2017

Dubai, Asharq Al-Awsat- Microsoft is showing the latest version of its flagship database and data analysis solution, SQL Server 2005, and the comprehensive development tool Visual Studio 2005 at this year’s Gitex. The latest versions of the SQL Server 2005 product family, which will be launched in the region by the end of the year, have been redesigned to better meet the needs of different customer segments. Visitors to the Microsoft stand in the Sheikh Rashid Hall can get an advance look at Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and Visual Studio 2005 at its Beta 2 stage.

“The next generation of SQL Server provides an unparalleled data management platform, which includes tight integration with Microsoft Visual Studio to provide comprehensive application development capabilities, and enhanced information management that will enable users to have a better insight into their business processes. Microsoft is committed to the Middle East, and we look forward to delivering SQL Server 2005 and Visual Studio 2005 later this year,” said Rani El-Kik, Server Product Marketing Manager at Microsoft.

The SQL Server 2005 product line will consist of four new editions: Enterprise, Standard, Workgroup, and Express. The functionality and features of SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition and SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition have been enhanced, while SQL Server 2005 Workgroup Edition and SQL Server 2005 Express Edition are new additions to the platform, to cater to growing demand from customers, and to offer a low-cost mainstream database which delivers unprecedented value and functionality. These four editions of SQL Server 2005 will offer a range of features that have been designed to empower users across an organization with a more secure, reliable and productive data management platform.

“The industry has changed since we introduced SQL Server 2000. With the new SQL Server 2005 product line, we’ve increased the breadth of our data management solutions

to offer more choices to customers,” said El-Kik. “We’re now better equipped to offer solutions that meet the technological and budgetary requirements of our customers.”

Visual Studio 2005 is currently at Beta 2 stage, a major milestone on the way to the release of the next generation of Visual Studio products. Visual Studio 2005 includes Team System, which expands the definition and audience reach of the Visual Studio product line beyond developers to development teams, adding new tools for project managers, software testers, infrastructure and software architects, and IT business decision-makers. The Team System also offers new advanced features for software developers that will help them increase the predictability of successful projects, and gain greater organizational efficiency and lower overall development costs.
