Riyadh – Saudi Renewable Energy Project Development Office (REPDO) is expected to generate electricity using renewable energy during the upcoming phase.

Earlier in February, the Energy Ministry launched REPDO to develop renewable resources project, review executive plan of National Renewable Energy Program (NREP) and its schedule.

Saudi Arabia is working on gradually introducing renewable energy and share Saudi personnel with this industry in addition to benefiting from international expertise in this field.

This development comes in time Saudi electricity consumption is high, especially in the last two decades. It is due to the fast economic growth the country had been witnessing.

Highest two aspects consuming electricity in the kingdom are construction and air conditioning.

REPDO is an office within the Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources and serves to deliver renewable energy across the Kingdom in line with Vision 2030.

REPDO reports to a committee chaired by the Minister that is tasked with overseeing the delivery of the NREP.

The committee brings together heads of the various Kingdom stakeholders involved in energy research, measurement, data acquisition, regulation and pre-development including, King Abdallah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (KACARE), Electricity and Cogeneration Regulatory Authority (ECRA), Saudi Aramco and the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC).
