Riyadh-Secretary-General of the Supreme Commission for Tourism (SCT) Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz signed a contract on the first of June with an international consultant to study the development of tourist resorts along the Red Sea, whose coastline is just over one thousand miles long. Prince Sultan pointed out the wealth of historic ports along the Red Sea, and announced plans to establish eight new museums nationwide. He also stressed SCT’s policy of preserving marine life while promoting projects profitable to the nation’s economy.

Plans for the tourist resorts are being carried out in coordination with the ministries of Defense and Aviation, Municipal and Rural Affairs, Interior, and Agriculture; and with the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment (PME) and the National Commission for Wildlife Conservation and Development (NCWCD). In addition, SCT has signed an agreement with the Ministry of Culture and Information to publicize its efforts, and specifically to promote domestic tourism this summer. The media, Prince Sultan said, can play an important role in highlighting tourist attractions. The campaign, under the slogan ‘Be closer to your family … know the Kingdom’, will include television coverage of tourist events in various parts of the country.
