Riyadh, — The United Arab Emirates (UAE) was Saudi Arabia”s top importer of non-oil products in March, buying goods worth 569 million Saudi riyals (Dh555 million).

It was followed by China, 427 riyals million, and Singapore which imported 272 million riyals worth of goods, according to a report released recently by the Export Promotion Centre of the Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CSCCI).

The report said Saudi Arabia”s exports to GCC states in March amounted to 1.223 billion riyals. Arab League countries came second with one billion riyals, followed by the rest of the world with 1.67 billion riyals, Gulf News reported.

The volume of Saudi Arabia”s non-oil exports during March increased by 34 per cent to 5.516 billion riyals, compared to 4.1 billion riyals during the same period last year.

The Kingdom”s imports reached 16.09 billion riyals with an increase of 29 per cent, against 12.461 billion riyals during the same period last year.

The exports were mainly petrochemicals and plastics. The petrochemical goods registered the highest rate of earnings, 1.558 billion riyals , followed by plastics, 1.558 billion riyals, re-exported goods, 593 million riyals and other goods, 1.076 billion riyals.

In terms of tonnage, the Kingdom exported 2536,000 tonnes in March compared to 2002 tonnes during the same period last year, with an increase of 27 per cent over the same period.

The Kingdom imported electrical appliances, transport equipment, foodstuff, minerals and mineral products and other goods. The electrical appliances and equipment imports came first at 4.156 billion riyals, followed by transport equipment at 3.489 billion riyals, foodstuff, 2.386 billion riyals, minerals 1.924 billion riyals and others 4.141 billion riyals.
