DUBAI, (Reuters) – Consortiums led by Egypt’s Orascom Telecom, Kuwait’s Mobile Telecommunications Co. and South Africa’s are among nine bidding for Saudi Arabia’s third mobile phone license, the country’s telecom regulator said on Saturday.

Communication and Information Technology Commission told

Reuters.

Dubai-based Oger Telecom, which is controlled by Lebanon’s

al-Hariri family, is also leading a consortium, he said.

Mobile networks are currently run by Saudi Telecom Co.

(STC) and Etihad Etisalat, in which United Arab Emirates operator Emirates Telecommunications Corp. has a 35 percent stake.
