KUWAIT, (Reuters) – Kuwait-based United Arab Shipping Co. (UASC) said it would start a new service in November to link southeast Asia and the U.S. east coast.

UASC said in a statement dated Sept 28 that it would team up with Hanjin Shipping Co. Ltd., Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd and Yang Ming Ltd. to provide the service.

“The SINA service will start from the end of November 2006 deploying eight vessels in the 3,500-4,000 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) capacity range,” the statement said.

“Providing weekly, fixed week-day service with each of the four parties deploying two vessels, the SINA service will cater for cargo in S.E. Asia to U.S. east coast as well as the India to U.S. east coast markets,” it added.

UASC was set up in 1976 by six Gulf States to reduce the region’s dependence on foreign carriers.
