Jeddah, – The Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry has become the first in the world to use electronic certification for its members.

The first two-dimensional bar code was attached to the file of the Arabian Food Supplies Company at 11 A.M. on Tuesday morning. The file was a document pertaining to an exit and re-entry visa for one of its employees.

This is one of the most important projects the Jeddah Chamber (of commerce and Industry) has ever done, said Muhy-Aldeen Al-Hakami, general director of the information and services division at the JCCI. &#34We are the first to use electronic certification in the entire world.&#34

Hakami said that this process would make it easier for businessmen to process their JCCI-related documents, even if they were out of the kingdom. It will save them time, energy and money, he said.

In a report published today, Saudi Gazette said China will be the second country to use the system after Saudi Arabia.
