BAGHDAD, (AP) – France’s Total says the Iraqi Oil Ministry has discontinued negotiations to develop an oil field in southern Iraq.

Total and U.S.-based Chevron were jointly negotiating a technical support agreement for the development of West Qurna oil field near the southern city of Basra.

Total spokeswoman Lisa Wyler says Total is “disappointed” that the talks were not successfully completed. She did not provide no reasons for the cancellation in a statement Thursday to The Associated Press.

Wyler says Total is committed to considering further development opportunities in Iraq’s oil and gas industry.
