DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, (AP) – Gulf Air said Wednesday it was resuming commercial flights to Lebanon, with the first flight scheduled for Saturday.

“We have worked closely with local and international authorities to ensure the re-start of flights as soon as it was safe to do so. We are completely satisfied that the time is right to resume services,” said Gulf Air President and Chief Executive James Hogan.

It was not immediately clear whether the company, co-owned by Bahrain and Oman, had coordinated with Israeli authorities, who have been maintaining a sea and air blockade on Lebanon since fighting between Hezbollah militants and Israel erupted on July 12.

Despite the blockade, Israel has allowed some commercial flights from the region into Beirut’s airport, and also has allowed aid flights.

Qatar’s national airline began flying commercial flights into Lebanon earlier this week.
