Dubai- Dubai inaugurated a new water canal after a three-year construction project costing AED3.7 billion and linking Dubai Creek with the Arabian Gulf, in a fresh boost for tourism and economy.

Dubai’s Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum said “Every achievement and success that we celebrate motivates us to move ahead with confidence, determination and optimism. We are challenging ourselves to generate the best ideas and initiatives.”

“Our progressive way of thinking, ambition and positive energy will bring happiness to the people and prosperity to the nation,” Dubai’s ruler added.

According to officials, the newly inaugurated water canal will be a vital site and an important addition. It will also have an effect in boosting tourism– the emirate has high hopes that it will contribute in the economic and social development.

The project also includes a waterfront of 12km—the waterfront includes residential units, tourist facilities of unique designs, a club for yachts and navy tourism and a space for commercial and entertainment outlets.

“The waterway will add a unique tourist showpiece to the city,” said the emirate’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) Chairman, Matar al-Tayer. “It will have a positive effect in which it contributes in enhancing water quality up to 33%. The region is also expected to attract more than 30 million visitors per year,” Tayer added.

“The canal will increase international competency of Dubai and will reinforce real estate and lands’ value in neighboring regions,” according to RTA Chairman. He continued that the waterway will also provide an additional opportunity to activate sea transportation in the service of commercial, residential and tourist activities in the district.
