Mecca – President of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais stressed on Saturday that the Hajj pilgrimage is a “real” opportunity for Muslims to demonstrate to the world that the annual rituals are not politicized.

It is also an occasion that the pilgrimage is not sectarian, but a chance to achieve unity, he said during a Hajj seminar that brought together a number of scholars, intellectuals and officials.

The world is suffering from the challenges of terrorism and sectarian violence, continued Sudais.

These dangers can only be confronted through reaching joint interests of achieving justice, security and peace, which is the goal of all religions, he added.

The word peace was mention 44 times in the holy Quran, he stressed before the gatherers.

“Peace is at the heart of relations between people, groups and countries. Without it, there can be no fraternity, coexistence or civilization,” he stated.

“Peace is not a form of cowardice, but it is a bold and brave step taken by those who want to preserve their ummah and country. Peace is the basis for the prosperity of nations and peoples,” Sudais stressed.

Peace ends wars, promotes productivity and attracts investments, he continued.

“Peace is a means of communication among peoples and it brings about moderation … Peace is a global message to demonstrate that Islam is a religion of tolerance, coexistence and mercy, contrary to what some sides are promoting,” he stated.
