Moscow – Russia revealed that a team of researchers has developed a new radar system to detect drones at a distance of 100 km.

This announcement came amid global intelligence concerns over the rapid development of drone technology. Drones, which have been used by armies in intelligence and spying missions, are remote-controlled devices that can fly at low altitude and can be equipped with high-accuracy cameras.

To control the use of these devices and restrict them in the fields of entertainment and sports competitions, many countries around the world have banned them near the government establishments, military, security, research, and strategic sites. However, the ban was useless, and people still fly their drones above these restricted areas.

Russia’s Ruselectronics Group announced that it has developed a new technology for the detection of moving aerial, ground and surface targets.

It said that the system provides panoramic views, detects targets and determines their coordinates within a radius of up to 100 km. It also provides target trajectory tracking and takes measures upon unauthorized intrusion.

It is known that drones can fly at low altitudes, making them “invisible” to traditional radar systems. It technical specifications also make them invisible to those radars.

The same can be applied to land and water drones. The Russian designers of the new radar system focused on monitoring the signals that control the movement of the drone. This allows the use of the system through visual and FM transmission that is not employed in traditional radars.

Preliminary tests proved the efficacy of the new system, which has a main antenna to detect the signals transmitted by the drone. Another 14 antennas monitor the coordinates of the drone itself. The system also has the ability to detect cars moving at a distance of 20 km and ships at a distance of 80 km.
