Riyadh- The Saudi Cabinet resolution imposing public parties to adhere to the security and safety rules before implementing the projects is expected to increase quality of projects’ implementation in the country since public projects implementers will have to present a certificate from the consultant that affirms conformity with the rules.

The cabinet resolution highlights this vital aspect of projects’ implementation in which public projects are expected to abide by a high level of professionalism and quality.

In the same context, the cabinet added that as for public utility projects such as road and transport projects or those involving renovation, modifications and additions, the payment will be cleared only after an undertaking from the contractor about his commitment to abide by the security and safety rules approved by the Civil Defense.

The Saudi Cabinet directed that the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs has to review the system of classifying contractors and its executive bylaw by giving them classification grades on the basis of their adherence to the security and safety requirements.

In a related matter, Saudi contracting companies are in a quest to enhance requirements related to security and safety standards.

Exclusive information to Asharq al-Awsat revealed that during the upcoming period the work cycle entrusted with investigating accidents resulting from unconformity with security and safety regulations will expand and sanctions might reach withdrawing licenses and imposing penalties.
