Cairo-In an official visit- the first of its kind- the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Kings Salman bin Abdulaziz honored the Al-Azhar Mosque with a visit during which he inspected the works on restoring the site. The mosque’s rebuild has been enabled by a fund granted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

During the visit, King Salman addressed all Al-Azhar officials saying that his country will support the mosque with all that is needed.

His Highness also took the time to lay the foundation cornerstone of the Beouth Islamic City, which includes residential complexes as well as service and educational facilities for Al-Azhar students.

Furthermore, during the visit, both King Salman and Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb sent out a call for all Arab and Muslim nations to unite, especially under current circumstances which pose a threat to the Arab world and hopes for tearing it apart.

King Salaman and Dr.Al-Tayeb asserted that cooperation and standing hand in hand between the Kingdom and Al-Azhar for the preservation of religious constants and the rejection of extremism is of upmost importance.

King Salman and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, showing religious respect to both Islam and the historical mosque, offered two Rakat (consist of the prescribed movements and words followed by Muslims while offering prayers to God) before entering the mosque.

King Salman and the Grand Sheikh Al-Tayeb, in light of the occasion recalled the gracious virtues and generosities of the late King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz.

Yesterday evening, King Salman and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi also attended the signing of a score of new agreements. Establishing a commercial zone shared by both countries and launching a common investment fund which is set up with a 60 billion Saudi Arabian Riyals (16 billion dollars), were the highlights of all the agreements signed on that evening.

The Egyptian Prime Minister, yesterday, made an announcement clarifying that defining the maritime border between the Kingdom and Egypt is an achievement which will bring about interest for both countries to benefit from the region. The area is now ready for exploration and extraction of beneficial resources that will boost the economies. The PM also said the two countries agreed to maritime borders that handed ownership of islands Tiran and Sanafir over to Riyadh.
